pain a gain basquiat
jean michel, I went and took a look at some of your work online. In its own way impressive. No doubt spontaneous. I am not going to show any here due to copyright issues. (google basquiat) Still, It is the raw spontaneous energy that is key. It is inspiring. I can remember being in New York and dealing with the scene of galleries etc. Showing Antonio's work. In 1982 he was 90 give or take a year. He had spent his whole life sculpting and painting in a totally classical, not neo-classical vein. A true original. His key also was spontaneity. This is the reason I was studying with him as a matter of fact. I saw the early classical pieces on the wall, like Rembrandt...

but it took me a while to get his current work like this: he kept saying they are better...they're spontaneous...
Now quite honestly, this has all the spontaneity and immediacy of anything you as a 20 year old could have ever mustered, yet here he is doing this at 90, the same time you were working and or beginning to work the gallery scene in the big apple. Still this has a classical elegance and intelligence way beyond your years. Can any of you deny this? Antonio died in 1995 at 102, knowing who he was. You died in 1988 of a heroin overdose. Oblivious.
Here's another of Tony's paintings of that period, of which he did 100s....
Now Jean-Michel, your color harmonies are okay, but when compared to this I think that you probably needed a bit more time and support to develop to this place. Check it out! The color, the composition, the spontaneous style. This is the true MATURITY of the energy you were manifesting.
I started some of my own manifesting around the same time...check this one out...for kicks...

whatever...It is just that it seems business has the art by the throat. Artists successful in the marketplace who haven't paid their spiritual dues perpetuate the nonsense. Ego loves itself in ever reflecting arrogance. It is the heart energy we as artists love...this what is always shared.
My final point would be that the artist's path is one of steady growth and practice through the observation and studying of nature. With right guidance, one can conncect into this inner energy of creativity and begin the opening, blossoming of one's art. This Antonio did thru 8-9 decades of work of the highest order. This is also what Rembrandt did, Titian, Monet, Sisley, Pissaro, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Morisot, Whistler, Cezanne...etc.
This is the pure gold of the culture. This kind of understanding. It is rare and extremely valuable.
In My opinion Antonio's work is vastly superior to your work jean-michel, and, for the same reasons your work has any value at all. You would have loved Antonio, if you had any humility or real intelligence at all.
One more....pregnant woman....1977...

and one more of mine...
yours in eternal bliss....
